My Demands
Arguably its quite difficult to come up with a singular set of representative demands for a post-capitalist utopia if you’re a diverse community of individuals with differing political beliefs. However, if you’re an over-confident individual, its not that hard…
I stand on the gently smouldering rubble of parliament and decree the following*:
Destroy the PLC system
Create a maximum wage
Nationalise the banks then break them up into co-ops
Profit becomes surplus, and all surplus is channelled into social or environmental projects
Create a set of values that underpin society through democratic consensus
Transition to a state that facilitates the will of the people
Discontinue any government subsidy of the arms industry
Ban any investment in the arms industry
Immediatley halt any military action outside of UK soil
Transition the army to a logistics and ‘peace keeping’ organisation for the UK
Ban advertising in public spaces
Measure Gross Domestic Happiness, (after full public consultation on its meaning and performance indicators)
Make talking therapies and other non-medicine based evidenced therapies universally and freely available
Measure Gross Environmental Health
Work towards improving GEH and GDP
Ensure that robust and easily understandable anti-discrimination/pro-diversity laws are put in place.
Transition to a 21hr working week.
Ban global tax havens, and clamp down on all corporate tax loopholes
Ban payday loan companies
Quantative easing to be used to wipe out all local authority debts
Ban private sector debt consolidation companies
Ensure higher eduction is completely free
Prevent supermarkets from giving away carrier bags for free
Ensure philosophy is a core subject in the curriculum
Politicians should only earn the median wage. This way they are more likely to feel the effects of the policies they create.
If you would like to add any demands then please tweet me @morelikewater using the hashtag #mlwdemands
*the demands are not in any order of priority or linear context. I also reserve the right to amend them according to the feedback and snide comments this will hopefully insight. I should also add that this is just the start and I suspect the list may grow longer as time winds its weary path way across the garden of crushing despondency.
